Joe Gavin's Media Website

Any Manchester skater that professes to be 'into' skating will without doubt know the name Joe Gavin, whether it is through his skating or his edits. For many years, he has been compiling skate edits for NOTE and other companies and now he has set up a website showcasing his work to the wider public and showing that it isn't only skating that he is good at filming.
Have a peep at his 2011-2012 showreel and his other work by clicking the link below:
Mad props Joe!

Throwback Thursdays

Switch Wallie at the start of a line
'Throwback Thursdays' will be a new weekly post on the KAPOW! Blog which will feature parts from Manchester skaters in various edits from the not so recent history.

To kick it off in style, this Throwback Thursday will feature arguably Manchester's most famous skater and master of both stances Joe Gavin's part in his board sponsor The Harmony's DVD 'Wolfstadt' from 2007.
You know an edit will be filled with bangers if it starts off with a Switch Tre Flip, and filled with more Switch and Nollie tricks than you can shake a rusty allen key at, you will not be disappointed.
Click the link below, watch, be amazed and then watch again:
Props to the guys at The Harmony and Joe's shop sponsor NOTE Skateshop
Have a ganders at the other videos on The Harmony's YouTube Channel while you are there.

Josh Parr 10 Tricks on Sidewalk Website

As if the transfer wasn't good enough, Mr Parr decides to ollie north it to tailslap. Madness
Peep Josh Parr's 10 tricks edit, filmed by Phil Harvey, on the Sidewalk website by clicking the link below.
Filmed at Manchester's Central Skatepark, it features numerous seldom-seen transfers like the one above and solid skating in general. Not much has been heard from Josh recently though but we would love to see more footage of this quality from him.

Dave Monoghan Mini Ramp Line

Mid-line blunt flip out to fakie
Whilst doing the daily skateboard video rounds on the internet before a lecture at uni, I came across this crazy clip of Manchester skater Dave Monoghan skating a mini-ramp at the ever popular Macclesfield Skatepark. It is a one clip video of one of the craziest mini-ramp lines I have ever seen, and it is packed with tech coping manoeuvres, flips into stalls and general Mini-Ramp Madness.
If you have ever had the honour of seeing Daves skills in person, you will be able to appreciate the steeze and effortless nature he performs his tricks with.
Props to Dave and Phil Harvey for filming.

Tom Day officially on Herion Skateboards

A lot of you may have seen his crazy road gap No Comply advert in Sidewalk mag and even on the BakerBoys Distribution website and it has now been made official that Tom Day has joined the team fully.
It wasn't meant to be common knowledge until the Herion video dropped but because of all the coverage Toms been racking up recently, Fos and the guys at Herion decided that they might as well let everyone know.

Peep his welcome edit (which is actually the 'Sponsor Me' tape he sent in to them) on the Herion Skateboards Vimeo Channel by clicking the link below. Numerous bangers being laid down in Manchester. They've even written a mini-essay on the reasons why they decided to put him on the team.
Mad Props Tom!

'One Hour With Seb Sharp' edit from The Black Sheep

Fakie Flip Back Disaster
The Black Sheep keep the 'One Hour With' edits coming with their second installment showcasing the skills of shop skater Seb Sharp in Manchester's Central Skatepark which, as the title suggests, have been laid down within a 60 minute timeframe.
This doesn't mean there aren't any respectable tricks, there are actually quite a few.

Check out his edit on 2Distributions YouTube Channel by clicking the link below:

Back to Basics

Currently in the process of designing a new Kapow Logo
Recently, I have upgraded my computer and software from an outdated Samsung Notebook with Photoshop CS2 and Windows Media Player to an Apple MacBook 13" with the full Adobe Creative Suite and more software than I can shake a rusty skate tool at. This in turn has led to me producing more designs straight on the MacBook and skipping the step which I used to love so much; creating and developing ideas in a sketchbook.

Having the ability to quickly produce designs is one that can't be replicated on a computer
So on a recent excursion to Fred Aldous in the Northern Quarter, I made sure that I invested a couple of quid in a small A6 hardback sketchbook that I can carry around in my satchel and not be too worried about it getting destroyed. I have found myself whipping it out on the bus and jotting down design ideas that pass through my head and would previously be lost. Having the ability to put ideas down on paper rather than having to get the MacBook out is a blessing and I recommend any designers out there to invest in one too. In an age where technology is moving at a faster rate than we can keep up with, it is refreshing to be able to get back to the most ancient of methods of recording images.
Just a writing implement and a surface to be written on.

The NOTE Piece of Kit Tour - Barcelona

Take a peek at the chilled edit by Joe Gavin of a recent trip to Barcelona with himself, the Note team and guest skater Jak Pietryga over on Note's website by clicking the link below:
Although it rained most of the time they were there, the edit still contains a good amount of footage and some nifty moves, notably Dom Henry's manual manoeuvres and Tre Flip madness from Mark Kendrick.

Also have a ganders at the wide range of skate products that they offer and maybe even purchase a few while you're there.

Twaun's Still Skating

Love him or hate him, you can't deny the steeze he has on a skateboard. Good to see he's still skating and has still got skills. Hopefully he'll focus on that rather than other non-productive activities.
